About FashionScarlet

An independent publication about fashion brands and the things they sell. We read the fine print, weigh what buyers report, and say plainly what we think.

FashionScarlet is an independent fashion publication. We review clothing, shoe, accessories and beauty brands, write guides to the garments and decisions behind a wardrobe, and report on how fashion shopping actually works: returns, fees, sizing and the gap between a product page and a parcel.

We're not a shop and we don't sell anything. We're not owned by, or affiliated with, any brand or retailer we cover.

Why it exists

Most of what you find when you search for a fashion brand is either the brand describing itself or a page built to send you to a checkout. Neither is much help with the questions people actually have. Does it run small? What's the fabric? What happens if it doesn't fit? Are the complaints about one bad week or a pattern?

FashionScarlet exists to answer those questions in plain language, with the evidence on the page, so you can decide for yourself.

What we cover

  • Fashion: clothing brands and retailers, and guides to the garments themselves.
  • Shoes: footwear brands, shapes and construction.
  • Accessories: eyewear, jewelry, hats and pre-owned bags.
  • Beauty: skincare, makeup, fragrance and hair tools.
  • Style: how to wear and shop for clothes, and how to keep a wardrobe working.

How our reviews are made

Our reviews are research-based. We read a brand's own documentation (fabric compositions, size guidance, shipping, returns and warranty terms), independent reporting about the company, and the public record of what buyers say. We note how large and how recent that record is before we lean on it.

We do not currently buy and test products hands-on, and we won't write as if we have. Where something can only be known by wearing it, we tell you what owners report and how much weight that deserves. The full process is on How we review.

Every review separates three kinds of statement: what we checked ourselves, what the brand claims, and what buyers report. You'll see them marked in the text.

How FashionScarlet makes money

Some links on FashionScarlet are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission from the retailer, at no extra cost to you. Commission never decides whether we review a brand, what we say about it, or how prominently it appears. Brands can't pay to be reviewed, to be reviewed favorably, or to see a review before it's published. The details are in our affiliate disclosure.

Who we are

FashionScarlet is written and edited by a small independent desk. Articles are credited to FashionScarlet Editors because each piece is researched, edited and fact-checked as a desk rather than by one person. The editorial standards we hold ourselves to are on our editorial policy page.

FashionScarlet has published since 2023. In October 2026 we relaunched the site with the standards described on these pages, narrowed our coverage to fashion and beauty, and began bringing older reviews up to the same standard.

What you can expect from us

  • The downside of a brand will be in the review, not buried below a shopping button.
  • When the evidence is thin, we'll say so rather than fill the gap with adjectives.
  • Prices change constantly, so we don't print them as if they're fixed. Check the retailer.
  • When we get something wrong, we fix it and say what changed. See our corrections policy.

Questions, corrections or brand information can reach us through the contact page.
