Caraway review: 30-day returns, and a warranty that excludes the usual failure

The pans look the way the photographs promise and the non-toxic claims are specific enough to check. The problem is the small print: a one-year warranty that excludes coating wear, and a 30-day return window that needs the original box.

Our take

Evidence: Limited

Caraway is a reasonable buy if you want ceramic non-stick that looks good on an open shelf and you cook at moderate heat with soft utensils. Treat the coating as a consumable rather than a lifetime surface, because the warranty says as much: one year, and coating damage from heat, metal utensils or abrasive cleaners is excluded. If you want cookware you will still be using in ten years, this is not that purchase, and the price does not reflect that.

What works
Oven safe to 550F, which is higher than most ceramic non-stick. The non-toxic claim is specific and checkable: made without PTFE, PFOA and PFAS. Damaged-on-arrival items are replaced with return shipping covered.
What doesn't
The warranty is one year and excludes coating damage from excessive heat, metal or sharp utensils and abrasive cleaners, which is how ceramic non-stick normally fails. Cosmetic scratches, stains and discoloration are excluded too. Returns need all the original packaging, and the policy does not say who pays return postage on a standard return.
Suits
Cooks who want an attractive set at moderate heat, and who accept replacing the pans every few years.
Skip it if
You use metal utensils, cook hot, or expect cookware at this price to outlast a single warranty term.

Brand documentation only. We have not cooked with the pans, and we have no verified buyer sample. Everything here is what Caraway publishes about itself, read closely. How we review

{"type":"doc","content":[{"type":"paragraph","attrs":{"textAlign":"start"},"content":[{"type":"text","text":"## Who they areCaraway sells ceramic-coated cookware on a single, clear proposition: pans that are free of the fluorinated compounds used in traditional non-stick, in colours chosen to be left out on the counter rather than hidden in a cupboard. The range has grown into bakeware, food storage and stainless steel, but the ceramic sets are still what the brand is known for.## What the coating actually is[brand] The product page describes a "proprietary non-stick ceramic" and states it is made without PTFE, PFOA and PFAS. [brand] An image caption extends that to lead and cadmium.[checked] What is not published anywhere on the page is the composition of the coating itself, or the base material of the pan body. For a brand whose entire argument is what the surface is not made of, the absence of what it is made of is a gap worth noticing. It does not make the claims false; it makes them unverifiable beyond the brand's word.[brand] The set is oven safe up to 550F, which is genuinely higher than much of the ceramic category.## The warranty is the real specification[checked] Caraway's warranty runs one year from the date of purchase, covers defects in material, construction and workmanship, and is limited to the original US purchaser. It is not transferable, and proof of purchase is required.[checked] The exclusions are where it gets interesting. The warranty does not cover cosmetic wear such as scratches, stains or discoloration where function is unaffected. It does not cover coating damage caused by excessive heat, metal or sharp utensils, or abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or bleach. It does not cover thermal shock, drops, or any glass or porcelain component.Read that list against how ceramic non-stick usually fails, and the two line up almost exactly. Coatings lose their release over time through heat and abrasion. That is the ordinary end of the product's life, and it sits outside the warranty.[checked] Buying from anywhere other than Caraway or an authorised US seller makes the warranty, in the page's own words, null and void. Worth knowing before taking a marketplace discount.## Returns, and the box you have to keep[checked] You have 30 days from delivery to return an item for a full refund, and it has to be shipped back within that window. All original packaging and accessories must be included, and proof of purchase from Caraway's own site is required.[checked] For bulky cookware, "all original packaging" is a real condition. It means keeping a large box intact for a month while you decide.[checked] Orders of five or more sets have to go through customer service. Bulk purchases and gift cards are final sale.[checked] If an item arrives damaged or imperfect, Caraway says it will provide a replacement, compensation or a full refund, and will cover return shipping. For an ordinary change-of-mind return, the page does not say who pays the postage, which is an unhelpful silence on a heavy parcel."}]}]}
